Pisgah National Forest Wade Fishing Trips

Experience Wild Mountain Trout Fishing on Foot

There’s something special about wade fishing the mountain streams of Pisgah National Forest. Clear water, wild trout, mountain scenery, and the sound of rushing water make a day on foot one of the best ways to experience fly fishing in Western North Carolina.

At Hare’s Ear Fly Fishing, our wade trips are designed for anglers of all experience levels. Whether you’re picking up a fly rod for the first time, looking to improve your casting and presentation, or simply want to spend a day chasing wild trout in some incredible water, our guided wade trips offer an authentic mountain fishing experience.

We truly enjoy wading the streams and rivers throughout our area. Every season brings different water conditions, insect activity, and fishing opportunities, which means we approach each trip differently throughout the year.

February through December brings hatches and changing opportunities for trout anglers, with spring and fall being some of our most popular times to fish. Summer mornings can provide excellent terrestrial fishing, while winter brings its own unique challenges and rewards.

And yes, we fish in rain, snow, and sunshine.

The fish are already wet. Just remember that.

More Than Just Fishing

A wade trip isn’t simply about catching trout. It’s about getting away from the noise, stepping into the river, and experiencing the beauty of the mountains.

You’ll fish crystal-clear mountain water surrounded by the forests and landscapes that make Pisgah National Forest and Western North Carolina such a special destination. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to see beautiful wild trout, learn more about reading water, improve your technique, and gain confidence on the fly rod.

For beginners, wade fishing is one of the best ways to learn the sport. For experienced anglers, it’s an opportunity to sharpen skills and explore new water with a guide who knows the streams.

Most importantly, it’s a chance to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the outdoors.
